Ralph: This is the best historical site in Ouro Preto! The painstaking renovation performed by the family who own it is truly extraordinary. Our guide, Matteus, a young architecture student at the university, lavished his attention on our small group, providing us with a fascinating, detailed description in Portuguese and English of the Palacio's history, its residents as far back as the early 18th century, and its renovation from a ruin, which took 8 years to complete. We were also fortunate to meet the family who have put their hearts and souls (and their own money) into bringing this important historical landmark back to life. The restored Palacio D'Ouro is a labor of love and worth every penny to see in all its magnificence. Not to be missed!

Andrew Shepherd: Excellent guided tour. Explains the history of gold mining in Ouro Preto, the family that owned the mine and the role of slavery. A visit to the house is followed by a walk through a small mine and a description of the separation of the gold from the mud. Nice views from the gardens. Tours in English available. Best to check tour times before going.

Nathan & Fabiola: We really enjoyed this guided tour of the property. Lots of great information on the property, history and artifacts. The tour is in Portuguese so without a translator it might be harder to understand everything.

Vitorio Miguel: I paid R$ 100 for a 2h long guided tour. There are many antique furniture and a mine. The guide answered every question I had and was very welcoming.

Anna S.: Great! English tours available BUT arrange a day beforehand to ensure. Wasn't available on the spot when I showed up (which I didn't expect). Good value for the money, yet the mining part is rather small/short and worth combining it with another mine in town.
