Christopher Mulenga: The Museu de Imagens do Inconsciente (Museum of Images of the Unconscious) is a center of study and research in the field of mental health, founded in 1952 by Dr. Nise da Silveira, a Brazilian psychiatrist who pioneered the use of art therapy in Brazil. The museum houses a collection of more than 400,000 works of art, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, texts and poems, produced by patients in therapeutic workshops at the Instituto Municipal de Assistência à Saúde Nise da Silveira, formerly known as the Centro Psiquiátrico Pedro II. The museum aims to preserve and disseminate this artistic and historical heritage, as well as to offer expressive and creative activities, exhibitions, courses, lectures and guidance to researchers. The museum is located in Engenho de Dentro, a neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, and is open to the public from Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 4:30 pm.
