Céline A.: Visiting this museum was part of a "Rio Little Africa Tour" by Florencios Tour and Travel I booked on Trip Advisor/Viator. The museum is small but yet powerfully showcases the history of the slave trade in Brazil. I highly recommend visiting this museum with the tour guide from Florencios. The museum also includes a souvenir shop and a coffee shop selling delicious pastels and other Brazilian snacks and drinks.

Princeka Onwuzurike: A very important visit to make. We learned so much about the history of Rio de Janeiro and the atrocities that took place here during times of slavery. But more importantly by going to the museum you’re supporting their mission to education and acknowledgment so that change can be made in the present. Very wonderful employee came to teach me much more about the institute and about the history when he noticed I was getting very emotional. It’s a must-visit when you find yourself in Rio de Janeiro.

Kelly Tavares: Crucial place to go if you want to know more about Brasilian history and African heritage. It's recommended to have a tour with Rio EnCantos Tour agency on the surroundings to get the contextualization of the site.

Sam: I would have liked to take a tour to fully appreciate this place, so I highly recommend that fellow travelers plan their visit in advance. The librarian was extremely helpful and suggested some interesting books to understand the importance of this place.

Hiral Patel: Very powerful message here! Rio is a beautiful city but it fails to recognize publicly its own history openly. This museum is the start of that recognition. One of my favorite stops in all of Brazil! The entire museum had English translation to allow for its powerful message to be delivered to our group.
