Bamboo Rio Hostel

Ella Adams: Avoid at all costs. Extremely disappointed with both the hostel and the attitude of staff. 4 of us stayed here for nearly a week and on the third night we noticed bed bugs bites. We made sure to check the beds to make sure it definitely was that, and we took photos of the bed bugs we found, alongside the bites so that the staff couldn’t deny it. When we found this out, we immediately went to reception to let them know about the situation. The only solution they offered was just to move us to a different room, however we declined this offer as it simply makes no sense to move around the hostel when all of our clothes will have been infested.The staff did not even offer to clean our room, which was absolutely crazy! Also, the 2 staff members which we spoke to were extremely rude and just couldn’t care less. They were laughing and giggling to each other which was extremely unprofessional, especially when dealing with such an important matter. We also were never even given an apology for the situation. Anyway, we brought this situation up again when we were checking out, to see what compensation we could be offered, but the manager just told us to message their whatsapp and it would get sorted out (bad idea, but we had no choice as we had a flight). I sent a message, and it took about a week for them to send a form to fill out. However, I noticed the amount to be refunded was only for 1 person for 2 nights. I politely explained that I was confused that the amount was so small considering all 4 of us were affected (which we proved with images) and they turned round and told us that apparently we only told them one person was affected, which was a complete lie. It took about another week for them to respond to that and then just said the manager was away but he was coming back that day, so we’d have a response later that evening. Took a whole week AGAIN for them to reply after me sending several messages asking for an update. They then responded saying the manager has forwarded the situation to the finance department and again to wait for a response. It has since been over a month since that last message from them (and 2 since our stay) and I have messaged several times asking for updates on the situation and I have just been completely ignored.

ジャウジャウ: 1️⃣Dirty! Dirty! Dirty! My mattress even smelled like urine, and my roommate's bed had bedbugs. 2️⃣The room on the first floor smelled like paint. They'd only been painted for a day, and they were moving in! Is this truly humane? Is this truly responsible? The paint smell filled the whole room, making it suffocating. 3️⃣The sockets were strangely arranged; many beds couldn't charge. 4️⃣). There was absolutely no hot water! Hot water! It felt warm water…… 5️⃣I'm 162cm tall and weigh 53kg, and the bathroom was so small you had to think about how to get out once you got in... God! I've stayed in maybe 100 hostels, and this one is one of the worst. Yet, I'm baffled by the fact that it has so many good reviews on Google and Booking.com... It's so confusing! If the hostel owner sees this review, please take If Google Maps reviews were more truthful, perhaps the world would be less tragic?

Kevin Stephens: Stay has been awesome So far! Nice lounge area, nice room with anemities, warm shower. Friendly staff. Post-stay EDIT: This was a great place! The common areas where great and cheap drinks on-site and even some food. Nice rooms that are tropically decorated. Cool culture and friendly people.

Hannah Swickard: As someone who has travelled all over the world and stayed in dozens of hostels, including Brazil, and let alone Rio de Janeiro, Bamboo has been by far the best experience. Not only was it amazingly comfortable, the location was ideal. I discovered this hostel because while I was traveling, I met Sarah, the receptionist, and we bonded immediately. The moment I arrived and met the rest of the staff, I was treated so nicely and welcomed. the first few days were so fun, I ended up extending my stay instead of moving onto a new location like I had been doing previously. The manager even treated me to a discount for extending my stay, which really showed me their dedication to customer satisfaction.

Barnabé Bailly: Bom día ahah👋 I came to Rio with a friend and spent five days here. 🇫🇷 The Bamboo Hostel team was amazing, 🐼 always attentive and ready to help us organize our outings. The hostel’s atmosphere really makes it easy to meet new people, and it’s not far from Copacabana and Ipanema. I definitely recommend it if you’re passing through Rio. 🇧🇷
