Marcel Teuber: Embarking on the Amazon safari tour was an adventure filled with both wonder and frustration. Let me set the scene: a journey that promised immersion in the heart of the Amazon, yet reality quickly unveiled its touristy nature. Despite the initial allure of a 130 reais all-inclusive package, we found ourselves constantly reaching for extra cash at each stop. Swimming with dolphins? That required a surcharge of 20 reais. Want to capture the magic on camera yourself? Prepare to open your wallet for another 10 reais. Even fishing came with a price tag – 10 reais for fish bait, no exceptions (at least this was communicated prior to booking the tour). The indigenous people's artwork? That, too, came with a monetary request. While the fees weren't exorbitant, the cumulative effect left us disenchanted with the whole experience. EDIT: After reaching out to the organization they kindly refunded us the fee for the dive with the dolphins and promised that this must have been a mistake by the guide himself. We don’t really know what the truth is - therefore I will just leave the comment as is. For a genuine Amazon encounter, we discovered the key was to distance ourselves from the tourist hub of Manaus. Opting for a 3- to 4-day jungle tour revealed the true essence of the Amazon. The immediate vicinity of Manaus, we learned, is teeming with overly commercialized ventures that compromise the authenticity of the experience. Our refuge was the enchanting "Pousada Tucana" nestled along the Rio Preto da Eva. This hidden gem tailored a bespoke program to our desires, ensuring an unforgettable stay. Diverging from the mainstream tours, we delved into the heart of the Amazon, fostering a connection with nature that exceeded our expectations. In the end, stumbling upon this accommodation transformed our Amazonian escapade into an extraordinary journey.
